Man wrongly identified as Chiefs rally shooter shares impact of misinformation
Denton Loudermill Jr. became the victim of online misinformation following the Kansas City Chiefs win at last year's Super Bowl, where one person was killed and many others injured at a rally. He recounts the emotional and dangerous fallout of photos spread online wrongly accusing him of crimes during an interview with Alyssa Jackson of NBC Kansas City affiliate KSHB-TV 41, a conversation that is part of National News Literacy Week, an annual event presented by the News Literacy Project in partnership with The E.W. Scripps Company and USA TODAY.

It only takes seconds for misinformation to be posted and shared on social media.
The consequences of that were seen in real-time following the shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl rally last year.
Denton Loudermill Jr. was falsely labeled as the shooter.
In all the chaos of that day, which ended with a woman killed and more than 20 people hurt, many people shared footage of Loudermill detained at the rally.
The footage was not aired by KSHB 41; however, social media users spread his image out of context.
